Why Not?
Chuck Zeuren (Red Records - Italia - 2000)

Vittorio Lo Conte

Sergio Veschi’s Red Records demonstrates noteworthy intuition in the choice of musicians to record and Chuck Zeuren’s CD is the “Cherry” on the cake of the entire catalog. The album includes a series of compositions well put together by the intense drummer, who reveals himself a noteworthy tradesman as arranger and also proves to be quite inspired through the presented material.

His music reminds one of the 1960’s Blue Note albums (however more modern) and his group is very capable of projecting itself into modern times. In the voices of his “sidemen”, taken one at a time, there is nothing original, but they are all instrumentalists well prepared professionally who succeed in giving this sextet a real twist and immediate notoriety. A knowledgeable collection driven by the leader, a drummer capable of holding his own in the face of other bands who, in the field of the mainstream, are under the glory of major record labels.

It is worthy to mention the technical quality of the cuts.

Beautiful compositions by a drummer who manages/directs a high quality band.
